The Vision That Launched The Watchmaker’s Workspace
Born from a simple idea—that downtown Clayton needed a professional hub where people could focus, meet, and build—the Watchmaker’s Workspace was created to be the go-to coworking space clayton entrepreneurs, creatives, and remote teams can count on. It blends modern amenities with the craftsmanship legacy of the building’s past to deliver a co-working home that feels both inspiring and grounded in community.
From Grapes & Beans to The Watchmaker’s Workspace
The building at 42 E Savannah Street is no stranger to Clayton locals. For years, it was home to the beloved Grapes & Beans restaurant. When the restaurant closed, Brenda Patterson—owner of The White Birch Inn and White Birch Provisions—purchased the property to preserve the over one-hundred-year-old structure. At the time, she wasn’t sure what the building’s next chapter would be, but she was determined to protect its history and keep it part of downtown Clayton’s story. That decision laid the foundation for what is now the town’s first and only coworking hub.
Honoring the Watchmaker’s Legacy
Our name pays tribute to James William “Bill” Flowers, the skilled horologist who once repaired timepieces upstairs here. His precision and dedication inspire a place where details matter—where your work time is respected and your ideas can thrive.
Why Clayton Needed a Coworking Hub
- Local pros wanted more than a kitchen table. Professionals needed reliable Wi-Fi, printing, and a place to meet clients without driving to larger cities.
- Entrepreneurs thrive in community. A shared space unlocks cross-pollination—marketing tips from a neighbor, feedback on a pitch, a referral over coffee.
- Downtown access matters. Being right in the heart of Clayton keeps members close to clients, lunch spots, and after-work life.
The Vision: Craft, Community, Convenience
- Craft: Thoughtful work areas—semi-private cubicles, ergonomic seating, and quiet focus zones—so you can do your best work.
- Community: A calendar of member mixers and entrepreneur meetups designed to spark collaboration.
- Convenience: Fair, flexible memberships with the tools you need day-to-day.

Since opening in downtown Clayton, the space has hosted local entrepreneur meetups and ongoing member events that make networking easy and authentic. Members drop in to focus, meet clients, print proposals, and swap ideas that turn side projects into thriving ventures.
