Brenda Patterson
Brenda is the founder and owner of The Watchmaker’s Workspace, The White Birch Inn, and White Birch Provisions—three cornerstone businesses that have helped shape the heart of downtown Clayton. A visionary entrepreneur and community builder, Brenda has created spaces that blend hospitality, creativity, and connection. Her work reflects a deep commitment to elevating local culture, supporting small businesses, and fostering an environment where residents and visitors alike feel inspired and at home. Through her leadership, Clayton continues to grow as a vibrant destination for entrepreneurs, travelers, and neighbors seeking meaningful experiences.

Jennifer Wood
Jennifer is the General Manager of The Watchmaker’s Workspace, where she brings creativity, heart, and strategy together to support Clayton’s growing community of entrepreneurs and remote workers. Known for her welcoming spirit and her talent for building meaningful connections, Jennifer leads the space with a blend of hospitality, innovation, and genuine care. Her work helps make The Watchmaker’s Workspace not just a place to work, but a place to belong.
The Story Behind Our Name
Watchmaker
Our name honors James William “Bill” Flowers, a skilled horologist and sign painter who left an indelible mark on the community of Clayton during the 1950s and 1960s.
As a dedicated watch and clock repairman, Bill operated a repair shop in the top floor of 42 E Savannah Street, where he meticulously restored timepieces for local residents. But his talents extended far beyond horology – he was also an accomplished sign painter, hand-crafting vibrant advertisements that adorned businesses throughout Clayton well into the mid-1970s.
At one point, Bill’s repair bench was even located in the back of the iconic Yo Yo Parker’s barber shop, which is now home to Main Street Chocolates. A fellow jeweler and certified watchmaker situated up the street, had the pleasure of assisting Bill in obtaining hard-to-find parts for his restorations.
Despite his impressive skills, Bill was known for his soft-spoken and kind-hearted demeanor, always donning his signature gray baseball cap as he went about his work. His legacy as a true craftsman and community fixture is one that deserves to be celebrated and preserved.
A remarkable individual with many talents, Bill made significant contributions to the town of Clayton and is the inspiration for the name of our business – The Watchmaker’s Workspace.
